Cincy Classic Cars is proud to offer this 1981 Factory Y84 Special Edition with a replacement 403 Engine. This documented Y84 Trans Am is only 1 of 1201 ever built in its original configuration with an automatic transmission. This TA was treated to an engine upgrade with a nice running 403 Oldsmobile engine with an estimated 66K miles. This special edition TA features Starlight Black paint with new SE decals, a restored vinyl interior, and upgraded 403 engine, and PHS Documents. This Trans Am is finished in the beautiful and desirable color combinations of Starlight Black (code 19) over tan interior. This is the factory color scheme as verified on the trim tag pictured above and PHS documents. These special low production SE Trans Am’s are some of the most sought after collectible TA’s on the market. They continue to increase in value and desirability.
Exterior
The Starlight Black exterior is in great overall restored condition. This Trans Am was treated to a repaint some years ago and new SE decals and pin stripping were added. The previous owner selected decals from the 1979 SE cars that look great on the car. The paint is in good overall condition with no signs of visible rust. The front bumper grills were replaced as was the front nose emblem. The underside is in solid overall condition with some patch panels welded in. There are some paint imperfections that are not very noticeable in the photos, but nothing was intentionally excluded from the photos. The tires are brand new and have full tread left and are sized 255/60/15 and the 8″ OEM snowflake wheels are in restored condition with new center caps and lug nuts. All weather stripping and window sweeps are in like new condition and were replaced when car was repainted. Trunk is very solid and clean with the space saver spare tire with an original style felt trunk mat.
Interior
The tan vinyl interior of this Trans Am is in really nice restored condition. The seat covers have been replaced and are in like new condition with no noticeable wear, no rips, no seam splits, or fading. The carpet is in like new condition with no major stains, rips, or holes and was replaced. The original dash is in great condition with no cracks, no warping, and no fading. The gold dash bezel looks great in the car. The upgraded digital JVC CD player was just added and looks great in the car and sounds awesome. The door panels were just replaced and are in like new condition and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner is in great overall condition. The package tray is in great condition as well. All interior and exterior lights and gauges work as they should but the tach. gauge is not working. The horn is not working and either is the blower motor. This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma what so ever.
Mechanical
This Trans Am is in good mechanical condition and runs and drives well and has good power. The upgraded replacement 403 Oldsmobile engine runs great and has plenty of power and is estimated to have about 66K miles. The brakes work well and stop as the should and the front calipers were replaced not long ago. The exhaust was replaced with true dual exhaust with added headers and gives this TA a nice rumble at idle and cruising speeds. New pypes splitter tips were just added. In the video one can observe this car running and driving and shifting through the gears. This Trans Am fires right up and holds idle quickly. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. Also, the engine bay is nicely detailed and clean. This is a factory AC car but the AC has been removed and an AC delete panel was installed on the firewall. None of the factory AC wires were removed or cut and are stowed away under the distributor. The car drifts a little to the left and would benefit from a front wheel alignment.
