This 1978 Factory W72 4 Speed Trans AM is in nice driver condition with low “Actual” miles of 88,626. This TA was repainted in its factory correct and very desirable Martinique blue paint. This documented Trans Am comes with the factory build sheet showing it was a factory 400/4 speed with W72 performance package. This special TA features a nice repaint in factory Martinique Blue, a mostly original light blue deluxe cloth interior, the original factory 4 speed manual transmission and the believed to be original Pontiac 400 W72 Engine, and factory build sheet. The vin stamp on the manual transmission is easy to read and numbers matching but the vin on the engine block is really faint and hard to read but appears to show as numbers matching. This Trans Am is finished in the beautiful and desirable factory color combinations of Martinique Blue over Blue deluxe cloth interior. These special low production 4 Speed Trans Am’s are some of the most sought after collectible TA’s on the market. They continue to increase in value and desirability.
Exterior
The Blue exterior is in very nice driver condition. This Trans Am features an older repaint in Martinique Blue paint which is in good overall condition and shows pretty well. The decals were replaced after the repaint and look great on the car and the nose emblem was replaced as well. Overall this TA is solid and was heavily undercoated when new with Ziebart undercoating. You can see the yellow plugs all around the car where the ziebart was applied and you can see remnants of the treatment in the engine bay and numerous other areas. The underside is very solid with no rust issues and no patches but there is some light surface rust from areas which has lost the factory paint. I could of easily applied fresh underside undercoating but wanted to show the solid condition of the frame and floors. The bottom 6 inches of the exterior sides have rock guard coating for protection against rock chipping while driving. Both bumpers are in great shape with no flaking or faded paint. The tires are older with decent tread left and the 7″ Snowflake wheels are OEM restored originals with newer center caps and lug nuts. All weather stripping and window sweeps are in good condition. Trunk is very solid and clean with an original looking trunk mat. A new windshield was installed and looks great on the car.
Interior
The Blue deluxe cloth interior of this Trans Am is in mostly stock original condition. The original seat covers are in good overall condition with no seam splits or tears but the drivers seats is thin in places. The carpet was replaced and is in like new condition. The original dash is in great overall condition and with no fading and the dash has not been cut for a modern stereo. A digital Sansui cassette stereo has been added in the factory position with newer 6×9 speakers and sounds great. The dash stereo area has not been cut. The original door panels are in good condition and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner was replaced but does have some sagging. The package tray is in good condition and appears to be original. The lights and gauges work as they should. The horn works as does the blower motor and wipers. This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma what so ever and look how clean that ashtray is.
Mechanical
This Trans Am is in very good mechanical condition with low miles of 88,626 Actual Miles. The original 4 speed manual transmission and and Pontiac W72 400 Engine are still in the car with matching numbers, see photos of vin stamps. Again the engine vin stamp is hard to read but I was told its original and I tried my best to sand the engine pad stamp but its still hard to read but appears correct. True performance dual exhaust was added which gives this TA a nice rumble at idle and cruising speeds. Trust mufflers were added and Ram Air exhaust manifolds were added as well. New front and rear shocks were added. A new starter was added. This TA runs and drives very well. In the video one can observe this car running and driving and smoothly going through the gears. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs great. The brakes do not pull and stop as they should. Also, the engine is very clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos. This is a factory NON AC car which really cleans up the engine bay and enhances performance.
