Vehicle Description

1978 Pontiac Trans Am which is in restored show condition and comes in a beautiful factory color combination of Chesterfield Brown over Black vinyl deluxe interior. This is a very rarely seen color combination which I have only seen a few times on this car and one other I owned a few years ago. This TA comes with the very sought after Factory W72 performance engine coupled with the factory 4 speed manual transmission. This Trans Am has remained in one family since new until a few weeks ago when it was brought to Ohio from Washington State. The original owner parked this car in his home garage in 1987 and it did not move again until 2012. In 2012 the previous owner bought this TA from his brother in law and had the car restored at a cost of $38,000. $18,000 was spent on a show quality repaint and over $5000 was spent on rebuilding the original 400 Pontiac engine. The car was nearly fully disassembled and then restored to show condition. The underside was fully restored and is in detailed condition. The interior is in terrific mostly original condition. The trunk features the original space saver spare tire, jack, inflator bottle, and original trunk mat. This TA comes with three factory build sheets and most of the original dealer documents. PHS documents are also included. Every receipt for the build is also included fully documenting the build. An excel spreadsheet is also included highlighting every expense in the build totaling $37,975. A memory stick is also included with around 100 rebuild photos, photos of all receipts and the excel spreadsheets, the build sheets, PHS Doc, etc. The miles are documented and the title states the miles as Actual.

Exterior features a show quality professional repaint in Factory Chesterfield brown with all new decals. The paint is silky smooth and gorgeous with a smooth touch and deep gloss. The body was disassembled and the body panels were realigned to achieve a perfect fit and finish on this TA. The paint is exceptional on this Trans AM and it shows very well under artificial light or outside in the sun. The lines and gaps are superb on this car and there is zero rust issues and no known rust repairs and no bubbling paint or cracked paint. All weather stripping is in like new shape as are the window sweeps and all were changed around the car. A new nose emblem was added and new front bumper grills were added. Tires have great tread left and are sized 255/60/15 and the wheels are 15×8 OEM snowflake wheels and come with new center caps and new lug nuts. The underside of this TA is in exceptional condition and has been fully upgraded with new suspension, serviced brakes, all new rubber parts, new brake and fuel lines, new shocks and springs, restored fuel tank, and is fully detailed and looks as good as the top of the car. There is no rust issues anywhere under the car and no past rust repairs.

The black deluxe vinyl interior is mostly original and in fantastic condition. This TA features a near perfect original dash with no cracks, no warping and no fading. The dash bezel is in excellent condition and looks brand new. The original seat covers are very comfortable and show no excessive wear and no rips or seam splits. The door panels are original and are in excellent condition and both door pulls are solid and in tact. Carpet is original and in great overall condition and a new correct perforated headliner was installed. Package tray is in great shape with no fading or warping. The stereo was upgraded to a modern Digital Kenwood unit with a new center dash speaker and newer Infinity rear 6×9 speakers. The stereo system sounds awesome and really adds to the driving experience. Car has not been smoked in and has no cigarette aroma.

This TA runs very well and has a smooth idle and no smoking at start up or while driving. Most importantly the factory original W72 Pontiac 400 high performance engine is still in the car and was fully rebuilt about 1500 miles ago, see included engine build receipt. The factory original 4 speed manual transmission also remains in the car. The four-speed manual transmission features a replacement Hays clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing and sends power to the rear wheels through a Positraction differential with factory 3.42 rear gears. This TA also runs very cool and features a newer radiator. The steering is very tight and responsive and this Trans Am handles very well. The brakes have been fully serviced and stop very well and do not pull at all. The brake booster was rebuilt and new master cylinder were added. New calipers were added with new pads and brake hoses. All new fuel lines and brake lines were added. The fuel pump and water pump were replaced. A new distributor was added and the carb. was rebuilt. The shocks were replaced as were the sway bar end links, all new body mounts and new bushings were also added. Newer rear leaf springs were added. The heater core was replaced with new heater hoses and clamps. The engine bay area is very stock correct and in show condition and presents itself cleanly and is highly detailed. 1978 four speed W72 TA’s with lower miles in show condition with matching numbers are highly sought after hard to find examples. They continue to grow in value and desirability.
