This 1978 Ford Mustang II is one of approximately 4,300 examples equipped with the King Cobra package, which added special trim, power steering, power-assisted front disc brakes, and a 302ci V8. The car is finished in Dark Midnight Blue over a tan plaid interior with a four-speed manual transmission. This King Cobra has factory literature, service records, a Deluxe Marti Report, and a clean Ohio title showing the mileage as “Actual.” This KC only has 34,053 Actual Miles and is a two owner car and the original owner had the car until 2016. The car sat for decades prior to the second owner restoring the car from 2016 till 2020. The exterior was taken apart and professionally repainted and new graphics were added and the car has a stunning show room condition paint job. There is absolutely no rust anywhere on the car and no bubbling paint, no chips and no door dings. The car is stunning in person and looks excellent in the sun. The underside of this KC looks as good as the top and is nicely detailed. New shocks were purchased and painted white and new decals were added to the shocks to replicate the original shocks that came on the car. A Marti report is included and the factory trim tag is still in place on the radiator support validating this as a factory KC.
The car was refinished in Dark Midnight Blue with orange stripes during previous ownership. The King Cobra package added a snake decal on the hood, King Cobra badging, and pinstriping around the side windows, decklid, wheel arches, and rockers. Other features include a rear lip spoiler, painted bumpers and mirror caps. The paint and decals are in excellent condition and the paint has a nice gloss and shine and is smooth to the touch. There is no rust anywhere around the car and no bubbling paint. The paint is beautiful and very fresh and the louvers look great on the car.
13″ lacy-spoke aluminum wheels feature orange accents and are fitted with newer 205/60/15 BF Goodrich tires at each corner which have full tread left. The car was factory-equipped with power steering and power front disc brakes. The master cylinder and brake booster were replaced and the brakes stop and work like they should. New calipers were also added and new pad and hoses. New stock style exhaust was just added and the car sounds great at idle and cruising speeds. The suspension was rebuilt and the car drives and handles wonderfully. E-brake works properly and a new fuel pump was also added.
The cabin is mostly original and features tan upholstery and a matching dash, door panels, and carpet. Interior equipment includes two rear seats, an original 8 track stereo which still plays 8 track tapes, an original shift knob, rear and side window louvers, and manual wind-up windows. The rear hatch struts were just replaced and they work properly and hold up the hatch well. The drivers seat bun was just replaced with like new original matching fabric and the seat cushion was reinforced. The carpet is the plush original style which is in great shape and the rear carpet was just replaced.
The leather-wrapped sport steering wheel fronts a 6k-rpm tachometer, a speedometer and the other gauges are stock and work properly. The five-digit odometer shows 34,053 miles which are actual. The seat covers are original and in great overall condition. The rear carpet was replaced and is in like new condition.
The original 302ci V8 sends power to the rear wheels through an original four-speed manual transmission and the car drives wonderfully. A newer battery was added. Engine bay area is very original with numerous stampings, decals, stickers, paint dobs, vacuum hoses, etc. The original battery bracing surround is still in place as is the original air induction system and air cleaner assembly. E brake is working properly and heater core was recently replaced. Horn and gauges and all lights work properly.
