Cincy Classic Cars is proud to offer this frame off restored 1960 Triumph TR3 with A-Type Overdrive. This TR3A was in one family from 1984 to 2018 and has been enjoyed by the previous owners who drove the car to national Triumph events. These include the annual Summer Party at the Roadster Factory in armagh, Pennsylvania and also Vintage Triumph Registry events. A frame off restoration was completed in approximately 2004 by the previous owner. The previous owner is an avid Triumph fan who is active in national and local Triumph clubs. This TR3 is finished in a desirable combination of red over black vinyl and includes side curtains, top and top cover. Stock TR3s came with 100 HP and this car drives well at Interstate speeds and can keep up with modern traffic.
Exterior
This TR3 was repainted by the previous owner in red with base coat clear coat paint. The paint presents well with minor imperfections as would be expected from use and age. You can notice the underside of the car’s body was also painted. The engine bay is body color as it should be for a Triumph. The black vinyl top shows well with no tears or rips. The side curtains function as they should and a carrying bag is included. Dayton chrome wire wheels and tires were installed in 2017 and tires are sized 165/80 R15 and have good tread left. The spare tire is a painted wire wheel and a jack is included. Minor previous rust concern is noticed in the passenger side sill, but as the photos demonstrate, there is no active rust issue with the car at this time. Chrome bumpers present well with little to no pitting or discoloration. The trunk and spare tire areas present well with no signs of rust.
Interior
The interior has been restored to stock with black vinyl seats which have no noticeable wear. Seat padding is the original horse hair stuffing. The black carpets are in excellent condition with no tears, rips or stains. Shoulder strap seat belts have been added for safety. Rubber floor mats are included in the sale. All gauges work and as the photos show illuminate at night. The cowl vent pops up and works as it should. The glove box opens with a key provided with the sale.
Mechanical
This car is in excellent mechanical condition and has been driven by us from Cincinnati to Columbus on both interstates and state highways. The previous owner rebuilt the engine and increased the compression ratio to 10:1, installed 87 mm pistons and liners and added a TSI camshaft. The engine has a new Joe Alexander designed rear crank seal. Cam shaft bushings were installed during the engine rebuild. At the time of the restoration a new wiring harness was installed. A 4 speed transmission with a synchronized first gear from a Triumph TR4 along with an A-Type Overdrive has been added. The car comes with a heater and the blower motor works. All mechanical and electrical items with the exception of the right side turn signals work. The exhaust system shows well and gives a good sound. A new set of points, condenser and a replacement coil were added by us in the last 12 months. This car is an excellent driver that feels good on the road at Interstate speeds. The brakes do not pull and work as they should. The engine bay is highly detailed and looks great at shows.
