Cincy Classic Cars is proud to offer this stunning 1979 Pontiac TA which is a documented Factory Y84 Special Edition Trans AM. In 1979 Pontiac only made 1107 Special Edition Trans AM’s with a factory 4 speed manual transmission coupled with a Pontiac 400 engine, this TA is 1 of the 1107 made. Per the included PHS Report and found build sheet this TA is a Factory 4 speed manual transmission TA with a Factory Pontiac 400 engine which is original to the car, see photos of vin stamp on block and “PWH” stamp on block. This TA is a factory Black car with Factory Black deluxe interior with factory gold SE pin stripes. This TA was owned by one family from 1980 till 2021 and has only had 3 total owners. This TA features believed to be partial original paint, an original beautiful Black deluxe cloth interior, the original Pontiac 400 engine and original 4 speed manual transmission, and the original build sheet and PHS documents authenticating this special TA. This TA is finished in the most desirable color combination of Starlight Black exterior over Black deluxe cloth interior. This is the factory color scheme as verified on the included PHS documents and trim tag. These special low production 4 Speed Trans Am’s are some of the most sought after collectible TA’s on the market. They continue to increase in value and desirability. The miles are believed to be original to the car but the speedometer was replaced with a 160mph in 1979 or 1980. An included letter comes with the car stating this fact from the family who owned this car for 41 years validating the miles. The current Ohio title shows the miles as actual as well.
Exterior
The Black exterior is in very good overall condition and has believed to be original paint from the body moldings up. Recently from the body moldings down was repainted due to rock chips and the like. Also the original pin stripes were removed around the car and new pin stripes were installed due to overall fading. The paint is in great overall condition and has a nice gloss and good shine. There are no signs of visible rust anywhere on the body or underneath and both bumpers are in great shape. There is no bubbling paint or cracked paint due to body filler on this TA. The underside is very solid with no visible patches and no rust issues. This car was rust proofed when new and recently touched up with new undercoating. There may be some minor imperfections that are not noticeable in the photos, but nothing was intentionally excluded from the photos. The tires are correctly sized 225/70/15 and the 8″ WS6 snowflake wheels were fully restored and look brand new. All weather stripping and window sweeps are in good condition. Trunk is clean with the original spare tire, the original trunk mat(which is amazingly still in great condition), and the original jack. The original speakers are still in the car along with the original drivers side insulation box.
Interior
The Black deluxe cloth interior of this Trans Am is in amazing unrestored condition. The original seat covers are still in great condition with no rips or seam splits. The original carpet is still in excellent condition with no stains, rips, or holes. The original dash is in excellent condition with no cracks, no warping, and no fading. The dash bezel was restored by Randy Combs and truly makes the interior. The stock style am/fm stereo still works and sounds good and thankfully the dash has not been cut for a modern stereo. The original door panels are in very good condition and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner and original rear package tray are both in great condition and still houses the original speaker grills. All interior and exterior lights and gauges work. The stereo, wipers, and blower motor all work. This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma what so ever. The horn is working. The factory AC system is all there and in tact.
Mechanical
This Trans Am is in very nice mechanical condition and has had some recent maintenance. Most importantly the original Pontiac W72 400 engine is still in the car with matching numbers, see vin block stamp. The original 4 speed manual transmission is still in the car with matching numbers. New spark plugs were just added. The carb. was professionally adjusted and so was the timing. Brakes were fully restored with new master cylinder and brake booster and new calipers and hoses and pads. The emergency brake was also restored. The exhaust appears to still be in original configuration and still has the cat converter. We have driven this car several times and it always performs well, it rides well, and is always a joy to drive. The smiles, thumbs up, and attention you get driving this car is addictive. In the video one can observe this car running and driving and the car handles and performs well. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs good. The brakes do not pull and stop very well and were fully serviced. Also, the engine is clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos.
