This Stunning 1978 Factory W72 4 Speed Trans AM has been nicely restored with low “Actual” miles of 78,893. This TA was just repainted in 10/2019 with all new decals applied. This documented Trans Am comes with PHS documents and the factory build sheet showing it was a factory 400/4 speed with desired T – Tops. This special TA features a beautiful professional repaint, a terrific Black Deluxe vinyl interior, the original factory 4 speed manual transmission and the original Pontiac 400 W72 Engine, and PHS documents and factory build sheet. This Trans Am has no visible rust anywhere and is solid with great lines and gaps. There is no bubbling or cracked paint anywhere on the body. This Trans Am is finished in the beautiful and desirable color combinations of Martinique Blue over Black deluxe vinyl interior. These special low production 4 Speed Trans Am’s are some of the most sought after collectible TA’s on the market. They continue to increase in value and desirability. This TA just received second place in class at the January 2020 World of Wheels even in Cincinnati Ohio. PHS documents and an original factory build sheet come with the car and validate this as a factory W72 four speed TA.
Exterior
The Blue exterior is in beautiful fully restored condition. This Trans Am features a recent repaint in Martinique Blue paint which is in great overall condition and shows very well. The paintwork was completed in 10/2019. The decals were replaced after the repaint and look like new on the car and the nose emblem was replaced as were the front grills. Two new correct NOS sail panel emblems were installed after the paint work was completed. The paint is in wonderful condition and has a high gloss and smooth touch and there are no signs of visible rust anywhere on the body or underneath and both bumpers are in great shape with no flaking paint. 4 new wheel flares were added prior to the repaint and are in new condition. The Cooper tires are brand new with full tread left and the 8″ Snowflake wheels are OEM restored originals with new center caps and lug nuts. These wheels were powder coated with the correct argent grey color. All weather stripping and window sweeps are in great condition. The door seals and trunk seals were just replaced and the window sweeps were just installed too. Trunk is very solid and clean with an original style trunk mat, the original space saver spare tire, and the original jack and lug wrench. A new windshield was just installed and looks great on the car.
Interior
The Black vinyl interior of this Trans Am is in superb condition. The original seat covers are in great condition with no seam splits or tears and are in like new overall condition. The carpet is original and still in good overall condition. The original dash is in excellent condition and has no cracks or fading and the dash has not been cut for a modern stereo. The dash bezel has been restored by Randy Combs and is like new. A modern stereo has been added in the map pocket and nothing was cut on to achieve this and the stereo sounds awesome with upgraded 6×9 speakers. The dash stereo area has not been cut. An original style radio could easily be added. The door panels are like new and were recently replaced and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner was just replaced and is like new. The package tray is in good condition with factory speaker grills. The lights and gauges work as they should. The horn works as does the blower motor and wipers. This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma what so ever and look how clean that ashtray is.
Mechanical
This Trans Am is in excellent mechanical condition with low miles of 78,893 Actual Miles. The original 4 speed manual transmission and and Pontiac W72 400 Engine are still in the car with matching numbers, see photos of vin stamps. The engine, transmission, and rear gears were rebuilt some years ago and this TA drives wonderfully. True dual exhaust was added which gives this TA a nice rumble at idle and cruising speeds. Several suspension components have been replaced such as new shocks, new fronts and rear sway bar mounts and new front coil springs which were just added. This TA runs and drives very well. In the video one can observe this car running and driving and smoothly going through the gears. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs great. The brakes do not pull and stop as they should. A new radiator was recently added and this TA never runs hot. A new battery was just installed. New spark plugs and spark plug wires were added with correct wire looms and wire loom guides. Also, the engine is very clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos. This is a factory NON AC car which really cleans up the engine bay and enhances performance.
