Cincy Classic Cars is proud to offer this 1979 Factory 4 Speed W72/WS6 Trans AM which is in wonderful mostly original condition. This TA is one of 2485 Hardtop factory 400 four speeds Trans Am’s made in 1979 and shows only 66,206 Actual Miles. This Trans Am features mostly original Red factory paint with original decals, a mostly original deluxe black hobnail interior, the original numbers matching 400 engine and four speed manual transmission, and upgraded Edelbrock EFI. This Trans Am has no visible rust and is very solid with great lines and gaps. This Trans Am is finished in the beautiful and desirable color combinations of Red over Black deluxe interior. This is the factory color scheme as verified on the trim tag pictured above. This is one of the most sought after collectible TA’s on the market being the last of the 400 4 speed cars, 1 of only 2485 ever made with hardtop. Very importantly the original engine and original four speed transmission are still in the car. This fantastic TA is believed to have all original paint outside of front and rear bumpers which were painted years ago and match nicely. The paint is in great shape but obviously has a few blemishes and rock chips around the car. I did not touch up anything with color matched paint as some prefer to leave it as original as possible.

Exterior

The Red exterior is in terrific overall original condition. This Trans Am has really nice mostly original paint and is in beautiful overall condition. The paint is in great original condition for its age and shows no signs of visible rust anywhere on the body with no bubbling paint and both bumpers are in excellent shape. The decals are original and still look great and are in really nice shape. The paint has a good shine and gloss and is smooth to the touch. I buff cleaned the paint and it really woke it up and brought out the shine. I did not cut into the paint to much and I took a photo of the cutting pad and wipe towel which is in the gallery. There may be some minor imperfections that may not be noticeable in the photos, but nothing was intentionally excluded from the photos. The tires drive fine and have good tread left but are older and are sized 225/70/15 and the 8″ OEM snowflake wheels are unrestored originals in great overall shape. All weather stripping and window sweeps are original and in good shape. Trunk is very solid and clean with the original space saver spare tire and jack, with the original felt trunk. The underside of this TA is exceptionally solid and clean and shows no patches or rust concerns. I see no visible signs of rust or rust repair anywhere on this fantastic Trans Am.

Interior

The Black deluxe interior of this Trans Am is in mostly stock original condition. The original seat covers are in excellent condition with no noticeable wear. These are the original hobnail deluxe cloth seat covers not some cheap aftermarket covers. The original carpet looks great with no stains, rips, or major holes. The original dash is in excellent condition with no fading or warping and the dash bezel is in great condition as well. The stereo was upgraded to a modern CD player with new 6×9 speakers and works great and looks awesome. The original door panels are in good shape and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner and package tray are in good condition. All interior lights and gauges work as they should. The stereo, horn, wipers, gauges, and blower motor also work. This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma what so ever. The original sound deadener plastic retainers are still in place under the metal A Arm trim pieces. I have only seen these on a few low mile “F” bodies as they are usually gone or dissipated. These still in place are a great sign of originality and lower miles.

Mechanical

This Trans Am appears to be in great mechanical condition and comes with the original Pontiac 400 engine and the original four speed manual transmission. The engine appears to run well and strong and the car handles great being a factory WS6 car. The engine was removed in 2020 and over $10,000 was spent fully rebuilding the engine and new Edelbrock EFI Pro Flo was added. Pro Flo EFI alone was $2500 just for the parts. See included receipts photos in photo gallery. A new clutch was installed at the time of the engine build as well. Dyno sheets show 272 HP and 309 torque. This TA seems to performs well, it does not run hot, rides tight, and is a joy to drive, especially with the four speed manual transmission. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs good. The EFI makes this a nice car to own as it starts quickly with out having to touch the gas pedal and is ready to go quickly. The 4 wheel disk brakes are a nice feature on these special TA’s. The master cylinder and some brake lines have been replaced. The current brake booster needs replaced and I am in the process of ordering a new one but they are on back order still. Newer Borla dual exhaust was added with ceramic coated headers and it has an amazing exhaust note at idle and cruising speeds. Also, the engine is clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos. This is a factory AC car and all the components are in place but the AC belt was not installed after the engine build per customer request as he was not planning to use the AC system and wanted to enhance performance. Everything is there but at a minimum a new AC belt and charge is needed. The 4″ air cleaner flex hose is original which is rarely seen and is a great sign of lower miles. Customer wanted to paint engine block red when it was removed to match the car and leave the upgraded Edelbrock intake manifold unpainted.
