Cincy Classic Cars is very proud to offer this rare 1 of 346 Factory 4 Speed Formulas ever produced with the Pontiac 400 high performance W72 engine. This car is very special because it still retains its numbers matching original Pontiac 400 engine and 4 speed manual transmission with matching vin stamps. Adding greatly to the value of this unique car is the fact that this Formula only has 5,769 documented “Actual” miles and only 4 owners since new. The original owner had this Formula Flat bedded to his home with 1 mile on the odometer in 1979 and immediately put the car up on jack stands and never once drove the car. He sold the car in 1991 with only 1 mile still on the odometer. The second owner put around 3200 miles on this car and the third owner put only 900 miles on car in his 19 year ownership. The fourth owner drove this car on a 600 mile road trip last summer to the 2018 Trans Am Nationals in Dayton Ohio. He purchased the car in July of 2018 with 4138 miles on the odometer and added over 1600 miles in less than one year. The car never had a hiccup or issue over the last year after finally having some miles added. At the 2018 Trans AM nationals this Formula was judged in the stock Concours Class. This Formula received the highest honor at the Nationals receiving Concours Gold with a point total of 670 points out of 700 total. Concours judging sheets will be included with the sale. This formula is mostly original and unmolested and comes with a host of original documents, dealer books and brochures, service records dating back to 1979, the factory build sheet, and the original window sticker. This Formula features amazing original paint, a mint original black deluxe vinyl interior, and the numbers matching 400 Pontiac engine and numbers matching 4 speed manual transmission. This Formula is exceptionally solid with great lines and gaps. There is no visible rust on the body or underside of this car. There are no touch ups and no signs of any body repairs or repainted surfaces and the finish and paint quality is absolutely excellent and nearly perfect. This Formula is finished in the beautiful and desirable color combinations of Factory Black (code 19) over Black deluxe vinyl interior code(19N). This is the factory color scheme as verified on the trim tag and window sticker pictured above. The Miles are branded “Actual” on the title and the very low miles are fully documented on past titles, numerous receipts, appraisals, and included photographs showing the odometer in 1991 as 1 mile. This Formula was trailered to the original owners heated garage in 1979 and Trailered away from that same garage in 1991 with 1 mile on the odometer.

Exterior

The Black and Grey exterior is in stunning absolutely beautiful original condition. This Formula has all original paint with no repainted areas, no metal repairs, and absolutely no rust, no bubbling paint, and no cracked paint or crazing in any way. Its showroom fresh and hard to believe its original but it is. The original paint is in overall wonderful condition for being original and looks and shows extremely well. Both bumpers are in excellent shape with no flaking paint or faded paint and no spider webbed paint. The decals are in great shape and look excellent on the car and are completely original. There may be some minor imperfections that are not noticeable in the photos, but noting was intentionally excluded from the photos. As close to perfect as the exterior is its still 40 years old and unrestored and shows a few imperfections, door ding. Tires are nearly brand new and re reproductions of the original tires at a cost of $1600 for just the tires and are correctly sized 225/70/15 and have less than 1300 miles on them. The 15×8 Snowflake wheels are OEM originals and are in near perfect shape and the center caps and lug nuts are originals as well and in excellent condition. All weather stripping and window sweeps are original and in near perfect condition. The trunk is solid and exceptionally clean with the original space saver spare tire, jack and tools, and the original correct trunk mat, which is in remarkable condition. Its believed the spare has never once been removed from the trunk and the jack never removed. The speaker still has its original speaker insulation box in tact looking brand new. The underside of this Formula is outstanding and extremely solid and rust free. It has not been spray bombed with cheap paint or detailed in any way. There are numerous factory assembly line markings and tags still in place as seen in the photos.

Interior

The Black vinyl deluxe interior of this Formula is completely original and in mint condition. The original seat covers are in excellent superb condition and have no wear, stains, or seam splits. They are soft and hold their form as if they were new and are very comfortable. The carpet is original and in near perfect condition with no noticeable wear, no stains, rips, or holes. The original dash is immaculate with no cracks or warping or fading and amazingly the plastic retainers are still in position under the A pillar trim. The dash bezel is in excellent near perfect condition. The CB Factory stereo works well and the CB works properly too. The CB was used regularly during the road trip to the Trans AM Nationals with several other Firebirds having working CB stereos too. The original door panels are in immaculate condition and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner is in excellent condition and the package tray is in like new condition. All interior lights and gauges work as they should including the cigarette lighter, the clock keeps accurate time as well. The horn, tach, stereo, wipers, and blower motor on all speeds all work. The factory AC system is completely in tact and unmolested and blow cold air but could need a recharge. It worked properly on the trip to the Nationals last August but has not been used since.

Mechanical

This Formula is in excellent mechanical condition and most importantly the original numbers matching Pontiac 400 engine and transmission are still in the car, see vin stamp photos of both above. This Formula has been driven over 1600 miles in the last year without issue and drives like a new car. The amazing low “Actual” miles on this Formula are fully documented and Original. This Formula runs and drives exceptionally well, it rides tight, drives strait down the road, does not run hot, and drives like a new car. The engine bay shows a lot of originality and several original factory markings, factory vacuum lines, factory decals/stickers, and factory tags are still in place. In the video one can observe the car running and driving with no excessive rattles or odd noises. This rare Formula has factory 4 wheel disk brakes and they perform very well and do not pull and stop as they should. The only noted deviation from stock on this Formula is the exhaust which was changed by the original owner as he wanted Ram Air/HO exhaust manifolds installed. See included receipts for exhaust work. Also, the engine is clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos. This is a factory AC car and all the AC components are still on the car and unmolested. This Formula has been loved and meticulously cared for by its previous owners and has been garaged everyday since new. This Formula looks new, smells new, and drives like new. The outstanding originality of this Formula and the way it drives is a true testament to prior owners care and love for this special car. This Formula is truly the one to have being a low production car with the highest performance drive line available in 1979. This Formula is referenced as the best of the best and simply the best 1979 400/4 speed Formula known to exist. The Concours judges at the Trans AM Nationals coined it as the reference car.
